KNOWLEDGE WITH A SOURCE

What is recorded.

These sources concern particular situations. They do not decide your individual case; read conditions and review dates.

EUR-Lex — Regulation (EU) 2016/399Reviewed on

For intended stays by third-country nationals of no more than 90 days in any 180-day period, Article 6(1) of Regulation (EU) 2016/399 sets the entry conditions. The 180-day period is the one preceding each day of stay.

This applies to third-country nationals. The Commission’s short-stay calculator says an EU residence permit or a long-stay visa is not subject to the 90/180-day rule. If a short-stay visa sticker authorises fewer than 90 days, that sticker controls and the calculator should not be used. Exceptions in Article 6(5) still apply. No claim about one nationality.

European Commission — Migration and Home AffairsReviewed on

The European Commission publishes a short-stay calculator. It checks a short stay against the 90/180-day rule: count back 180 days from each day and keep the total within 90.

The page calls 90 days the usual maximum, not a rule for every person. Residence permits, long-stay visas and a shorter short-stay visa are excluded on the same page.

The EU has uniform animal-health rules for dogs, cats and ferrets. Non-commercial movement — not for sale or transfer of ownership — follows Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2026/131. The Commission applies that regulation both to travel within the EU and to entry from a non-EU country. It lists non-EU countries from which these animals may enter without a rabies antibody titration test.

Dogs, cats and ferrets only. This is the EU movement rule, not a destination country’s entry rule outside it. The page points commercial movement inside the EU to Delegated Regulation (EU) 2020/688 and entry of consignments to (EU) 2020/692. Microchip, pet passport and waiting periods are not in the checked paragraph and are not added here.

The European Health Insurance Card is free. During a temporary stay it gives access to medically necessary, state-provided healthcare in the 27 EU countries plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland or the United Kingdom, on the same terms and at the same cost as for people insured there.

The national health insurer issues the card. It is not travel insurance, it does not cover private treatment or a flight home, and it does not apply when the trip is for treatment. Free care is not guaranteed. A person who moves their habitual residence should use the S1 form, not the card.

112 is the European emergency number, available everywhere in the EU and free of charge. A call from a fixed or mobile phone reaches a trained operator for an ambulance, the fire brigade or the police. 112 works alongside existing national numbers.

The Commission page names eight countries that use 112 as their only national number. Germany is not on that list, so no second German number is stated here. 112 does not answer traffic or weather questions. Hoax calls can be a criminal offence. No claim about numbers outside the EU.
